Why All Saints in Soho is a winner

If you like black, grey and brown hues with a bit of a vintage twist, a bit of Goth Romantic, this store is a go-to for you. If you are a Brit, All Saints is old news. For we Americans its a refreshing new destination, good for the stylish woman ages 20- 50 who can’t afford Alexander McQueen, but wishes she could. Who still covets quality feel-good leather, cool well-fitting tees and the kind of dress suitable for urban trenedy dining. Who will spend $180 on a great top (or wait for the 50% off sale). The new location on Broadway in Soho does diminish its appeal, with neighbors such as Top Shop and H & M. But space they have, which can only be found on this maddening mall-like Ave. Fall will likely be the best time to shop All Saints, as its colors are more suitable. a Day in the Life of Shop Gotham: Uniglo and +J – steal the show

So… we at Shop Gotham recently took some major fashion magazine editors shopping. Would love to drop names but alas, cannot. Suffice it to say, these stylin’ gals have seen it all and then some. They had just come from the top 2010 fashion “shows” in Bryant Park, have been courted directly by all important designers and likely over time received plentiful freebies. So we hit some of the uberfab independents in NYC. Yes, they loved Kirna Zabete, Deco Jewels, and Opening Ceremony. But where did they drop their $?? At UNIGLO!!! They were pumped up about the new + J line (Jil Sander), specifically the black jackets in 3 lengths, which are oh so Prada reminiscent, but a mere $79- $99. Who would have thunk? www.shopgotham.com

3 Reasons NYC Rocks

1)Even if you cant afford one item at Bergdorf Goodman, anyone can wander in and almost always spot a celeb. Last week Kelsey Grammer and wife spotted in shoe dept. PS. Fine dept stores are also very useful for their lovely bathrooms.

2)Street Vendors in Soho. Some of the best authentic jewelry, hats, art & whatnot are sold on the streets of Soho. Talented folks without the overhead of stores, create and sell edgy & trendy at a fraction of the stores’ prices. TIP: The exception is those located on Broadway. These vendors sell the mass merch shipped in overseas.

3)Because some of the best music can be heard in the subways.

Vintage Favorite for Teens

Vintage apparel is genuinely hot in NYC. Lots of it and sought-after. But… depending on the neighborhood, it can be mighty pricey for “used goods”. If your teen is bent on checking out NYC vintage wearables, head directly to Zachary’s Smile. Part vintage “inspired”, part real deal, its not “designer laden”, but it does have cool and price appropriate duds with a big nod to the 70’s. Recently, they have added a basement area; most items under $29 bucks. We like the Soho/Noho locale: Zachary’s Smile 317 Lafayette (btw Houston & Bleeker)
